VASAKA (Justicia adhatoda)

Vasaka is a shrub with white, lance-shaped leaves 10-15 cm long. They have smooth edges and grow on short leaf stalks.

The plant is native to Asia and is found in Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, China, and also in Panama.

Vasaka leaves contain essential oil and the quinazoline alkaloids Vascinin, Vascinon, and Desoxyvascinin.

The roots contain Vascinolon, Vascol, Peganin, and 2-Hydroxy-4-glucosyl-oxychalcone.

The flowers contain Beta-Sitosterol-D-Glucoside, Kaempferol and its glycosides, as well as the bioflavonoid Quercetin.

In Ayurveda, the properties of dried Vasaka leaves are mainly used.

The properties of Vasaka are:
