Nettle - Health from Nature
Gardeners notoriously remove nettle from their gardens because they consider it a weed. However, nettle has valuable properties that are increasingly recognized in herbal medicine. The growing popularity of nettle is mainly due to its widespread availability, as it does not have high growth demands and is commonly found in the wild. It basically grows everywhere in the world, except for tropical regions and the two poles.
Nettle - what ingredients does it contain?
Herbal medicine values nettle especially for its numerous ingredients. Its variety makes it one of the most valuable herbs in the Polish climate zone. It is characterized by a high content of vitamins A, K, B2, and C and also contains a rich supply of minerals such as magnesium and calcium. Nettle also contains active organic acids and phytosterols. It is the richest natural source of iron, which makes it ideal for use by pregnant women or women in menopause.
Regular consumption of nettle - benefits
Due to its high iron content, nettle is particularly suitable for people struggling with a deficiency of this mineral. Iron deficiency leads to serious consequences such as pale skin, general fatigue, and in extreme cases even anemia. Iron deficiency impairs the bone marrow's limited ability to produce hemoglobin, which worsens oxygen circulation in the body and leads to hypoxia.
Pregnancy and menopause - special recommendations
Nettle is also useful for pregnant women and women in menopause. It also supports milk production, the most valuable food for newborns and infants. The ingredients contained in nettle also accelerate the healing of swelling after childbirth.
Additional benefits
The plant is mainly recommended for consumption due to its diuretic properties for people struggling with urinary problems. Nettle is also excellent for the time of the spring and autumn equinox, especially because of its ability to strengthen the body's overall immunity. People with acne-prone skin should also regularly drink nettle tea.
Nettle - usage
As with most herbs, nettle is most commonly administered as an infusion. Syrups are also useful for colds and other illnesses as they strengthen the body's overall immunity. The cosmetics industry has also recognized the qualities of this plant, which is why it is included in many hair care products and to combat dandruff and itching. Adding nettle to your bath can ensure your skin is well nourished.
Contraindications
So far, no specific contraindications for the use of nettle are known. An exception is people suffering from kidney failure. The diuretic properties of this plant can contribute to excessive strain on these organs. It is also not recommended to use nettle in diabetics.
Nettle tea
Herbal teas are the most popular way to administer them. This is also the case with nettle. The preparation of this infusion is somewhat more complicated than with other plants, but this activity should not cause major problems. First, put a measured amount of the dried plant into a pot, add cold water, and bring it to a boil. Then cover the pot and let it boil for another 5 minutes. After that, turn off the stove and let it sit covered for another 10 minutes.
