Bancha green tea is considered an attractive alternative to flavorful and potent coffees and teas. But what makes Bancha unique? This special type of tea captivates with its aroma, and thanks to its reduced caffeine content, it's perfect not only for gourmets but also for children and seniors. It naturally contains the power of valuable ingredients, vitamins, and antioxidants, and above all, it's delicious.

Green teas from Japan, China, and Korea are available in a very wide variety. Taste, color, and caffeine content depend on how early the leaves are harvested and how they are subsequently processed. The quality of the tea also depends on the type and ripeness of the leaves harvested. The tender buds (tips) and the youngest leaves are used to produce the highest quality teas such as sencha, matcha, or fine varieties of white tea. Bancha green tea is made from the older leaves that grow on the lower branches, as well as from the stems and soft twigs that are left over from the sencha harvest. Bancha is slightly more bitter, but still refreshing and light.

Bancha green tea and its effects

The great benefit of the drink is that bancha green tea is rich in calcium and iron, making it a very good addition to your daily diet. Its flavor can be described as slightly grassy and sweet, but becomes bitter if the leaves aren't separated from the infusion for too long. However, green teas are perhaps best known for their high antioxidant content. This means that drinking infusions regularly can help neutralize the harmful effects of free radicals, which are responsible for premature skin aging and slow down some bodily functions.

Green Bancha tea is a type of tea for all-day drinking. Because the leaves are matured for a longer time, they contain low amounts of caffeine. The finished infusion therefore has no stimulating properties. It can be prepared in the morning, after meals, and in the evening, and can also be given to children. It's perfect for the elderly and anyone trying to limit caffeine in their drinks.

Brewed hot or cold green bancha tea can be consumed regularly. Contrary to popular belief, tea does not dehydrate the body in any way. However, infusions made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis shrub have a diuretic effect, but are also very beneficial for maintaining proper kidney function. Especially in hot weather, when clean, filtered water is replaced with cool tea, you can count on effective hydration, thirst quenching, and a dose of vitamins and minerals.

Preparation of Bancha

Tea can be prepared with water at approximately 70-80°C. Pour approximately 3 grams of dried material (1 teaspoon) into the strainer, then infuse the leaves with 150 ml of water. After 1.5 minutes, the leaves should be separated from the infusion. However, they can be used for the second and third infusions—steep for 1 minute (shorter because the leaves are already "awakened," thus releasing more of their aroma) and then for 2 minutes. Green tea, especially bancha, can be prepared with more cold water (approximately 10 grams of leaves to 1.5 liters of water). The mixture should rest in the refrigerator overnight.
