Alkaline herbs with a deacidifying effect on the body
Contents:
For our body to be healthy and resistant to disease, and for our well-being to be as optimal as possible, an acid-base balance must be maintained. However, it often happens that this balance is disrupted, for example, as a result of illness or poor eating habits; excessive consumption of meat and dairy products, highly processed foods, and stimulants like cigarettes, coffee, and alcohol, as well as intensive exercise, leading to an over-acidification of the body, which is detrimental to us. To restore the acid-base balance, a proper and healthy diet and the consumption of alkaline herbs are necessary, which we will focus on in more detail.
Symptoms of hyperacidity of the body
A diet rich in meat and dairy products, as well as regular coffee and beer consumption, promotes acidosis. Acidity levels can be checked through blood and urine tests. We can perform these if we notice the following symptoms:
- Deterioration of condition,
- Tiredness, even immediately after waking up,
- feeling of heaviness
- Distraction and concentration problems,
- Irritability, nervousness and low stress resistance
- Headache,
- Heartburn,
- flatulence,
- Problems with skin, hair and nails,
- Muscle and joint pain,
- Susceptibility to infections,
- Weight gain.
Herbs with deacidifying effects
Fortunately, with a little willpower and a healthy, varied diet rich in alkaline foods, including millet, buckwheat , lemon, olive oil, citrus fruits , watermelons , strawberries, and bananas, as well as vegetables such as tomatoes, zucchini, beets, and spinach , the body's acidity can be relatively easily controlled. During this diet, it's worth avoiding coffee and replacing it with green tea, for example, and, above all, popular and readily available herbs with alkaline properties. These include herbs with diuretic, cleansing, and detoxifying effects, such as:
- Nettle – supports the excretion of chlorides and urea, removes excess sodium, and facilitates the elimination of toxins from the body. It has a positive effect on metabolic processes and removes excess uric acid.
- Dandelion – has a cholagogue and cholepoietic effect, supports the proper functioning of the liver,
- Elderberry – removes excess uric acid from the body.
Although our body is excellently capable of neutralizing and excreting acids thanks to the proper functioning of the kidneys, liver, and lungs, it still happens that the acid-base balance is disturbed by inadequate nutrition and everyday stress. Therefore, it is worth including herbs valued in Polish folk medicine for years in your daily diet. These herbs can be simply poured over with boiling water and consumed in the form of infusions. You can also purchase ready-made herbal tea blends containing herbs such as nettle, dandelion, lemongrass, lemon balm , peppermint, raspberry leaves, lavender flowers, fennel, carrots, linden blossoms , alfalfa, and parsley.
