Spring equinox – how can you counteract it?
Contents:
Astrological spring begins around the third week of March. The days get longer, temperatures rise, and nature awakens after a long winter sleep. It seems that thanks to these first signs of spring, we should have more energy and a sense of purpose. Meanwhile, we may be experiencing spring fatigue syndrome, also known as the spring solstice. This is a time when many of us experience poor well-being, bad moods, and extreme fatigue. The reason for this phenomenon, which we struggle with every year, is that our bodies automatically respond to the increased amount of daylight. It then releases more serotonin and other hormones, leading to mood swings. At the same time, melatonin production decreases, which can cause sleep disturbances.
Symptoms of spring fatigue syndrome
The spring solstice lasts from March to April and is characterized by, among other things:
- Difficulty concentrating,
- Headaches and dizziness,
- Feeling of constant tiredness and exhaustion,
- Feeling of lethargy, but also fear,
- sleep disorders,
- Changes in appetite and weight fluctuations,
- feel depressed,
- low energy level.
How to deal with the spring solstice
Although the discomforts that plague us during the spring solstice are a natural stage of this period, we can try to alleviate them somewhat. So, what should you do to avoid feeling sad, overwhelmed, and tired at the turn of winter into spring?
- A colorful, varied diet – in winter we are usually more willing to eat heavy, warm, high-calorie and warming foods, so our body now demands a varied diet, rich in fresh vegetables and seasonal fruits, which include parsley and parsley root, leek, lamb's lettuce and , baby potatoes, iceberg lettuce, peppers , pulses, asparagus, garlic , onions, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, beets, chicory, squash, endive , fennel, young cabbage, chicory, baby carrots, radishes, artichokes and fruits such as pears , rhubarb, mango , apples and blood oranges.
- Outdoor exercise – even if we may feel too overwhelmed and tired for dramatic exercise, we shouldn't forget about daily, healthy walks, especially when the sun is shining. This stimulates the production of vitamin D, serotonin, and endorphins. Additionally, when our bodies are supplied with oxygen, we can fall asleep more easily. However, remember not to do any intense exercise right before bedtime; if you do, you should take time in the evening to calm down and relax.
- Time for little pleasures – after winter, our hair often becomes dry and dull, and our skin pale. Spring is the time to indulge in pleasure and pamper your skin and hair at home. Relaxing baths in aromatic oils, massages, and body treatments can significantly improve our well-being.
- Time to meet friends – Nothing lifts your mood better than meeting friends and having heartfelt conversations with your loved ones. Then we can not only laugh together, but also complain. It has a therapeutic effect and is the best antidote to all sadness.
Let's also remember that the spring solstice is a transitional period that will pass relatively quickly. We can also try to accept this state, allow ourselves to have a bad day without blaming ourselves, and in the evening, sit comfortably on the sofa with a good cup of tea in hand and watch our favorite movie to lift our spirits.
