Lecithin - für das Gedächtnis und mehr

CONTENTS

Lecithin occurs naturally in our bodies and is part of cell membranes, performing many important functions. It is a mixture of phospholipids, primarily fatty acids and choline. It was first isolated from chicken egg yolk in 1846. Hence its name— lekithos means egg yolk in Greek. Lecithin is essential for proper functioning, and although it is a natural ingredient produced by the human body, it is good to get additional intake through consuming foods rich in it or using supplements.

Types of lecithin

Lecithin in the form of a dietary supplement is available in three different variants, which differ in the fatty acid content:

  • Soybean - the benefit of Omega 6,
  • Rapeseed - the benefit of Omega 3
  • Sunflower - the benefit of Omega 6.

Lecithin properties:

  • is a building block of every body cell, is a component of cell membranes,
  • supports the memory and concentration process, especially through the content of choline,
  • has a positive effect on the liver and stomach - supports the regeneration and detoxification of the liver,
  • is a component that builds brain tissue,
  • supports metabolism,
  • supports muscle regeneration after training,
  • affects the efficiency of blood circulation,
  • supports the absorption of vitamins.

Lecithin - how long to use

Everyday sources of lecithin are foods such as:

  • rapeseed oil,
  • Liver,
  • Sunflower seeds,
  • nuts,
  • an avocado,
  • Linseed,
  • Fish,

Because lecithin has a positive effect on brain function, concentration, and memory processes, it is especially recommended for all students, those engaged in intellectual work, and older people whose memory may decline with age. It is also recommended for students during intensive study periods during exams. During this time, it is worthwhile to take lecithin supplements at the dosage indicated on the packaging. It is a relatively safe dietary supplement. Since a single dose is unlikely to provide immediate improvement in mental concentration, lecithin can be used for longer periods—from one to three months. The daily lecithin intake depends on the daily choline requirement and is approximately 2–2.5 grams of lecithin per day.

Lecithin - Contraindications

Lecithin may contain allergens, so it is not recommended for people with food allergies. Lecithin supplements are also not recommended for people taking anticoagulants with blood clotting disorders. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking lecithin capsules.

Side effects of soy lecithin

One of the richest sources of lecithin is soy, a plant that forms the basis of vegetarian and vegan diets. Like other types of lecithin, it can have a positive effect on our memory, metabolism, and levels of good cholesterol. Not everyone knows that soy lecithin is also used in the food industry, where it is known as E322, as well as in the cosmetics industry. It is found in bread, cakes, and chocolate, among other products. Lecithin added to cosmetics has a beneficial effect on skin and hair. Allergy sufferers should be especially careful with soy lecithin found in cosmetics and products, as it can cause unwanted side effects, such as:

  • Diarrhea,
  • Dizziness,
  • no appetite.

Lecithin for children

Lecithin capsules should not be taken by young children. They are recommended for school-age children 13 years and older.
