If we feel drained of energy after a full day at work and are feeling tired or stressed, a home spa can help. A relaxing bath in your own bathroom can do wonders for our tired body and mind. There's an easy way to feel like you're in a real, professional spa: toss sparkling bath bombs into the tub. They begin to dissolve upon contact with water, releasing nourishing and aromatic ingredients that soothe our senses. Instead of using a store-bought bath bomb, let's make one ourselves at home—free of artificial additives, preservatives, and microplastics.
DIY eco-friendly bubble ball
The basic ingredients for making a carbonated bath bomb are citric acid, sodium bicarbonate, and optional additives in the form of your favorite essential oil, olive oil, flower petals, or natural colorings. The recipe is trivially simple:
In a large bowl, combine a glass of baking soda and half a glass of citric acid; mix both ingredients thoroughly. Then add a small amount of your favorite olive oil, and if you want a specific scent, a few drops of your chosen essential oil ( lavender , rose, lemon , or orange). Once all the ingredients are in the bowl, begin kneading the mixture with your hands. You should get a mixture the consistency of wet sand, suitable for baking cupcakes in a sandbox. If the mixture is too dry, add a little water or hydrosol to prevent the baking soda from foaming. Once the mixture is ready, simply form it into balls by hand or use ready-made molds available in stores. The balls can be used immediately; the remaining ones should be stored in a dry, cool, and dark place in a sealed container—glass or plastic, or in a mesh bag. This way, the balls will last for up to six months.
Additives for ecological foam balls
The recipe above is the simplest and most basic way to make homemade eco-friendly bath bombs. While kneading the mixture, you can add your favorite ingredients to make the balls unique and unique, tailored to your individual needs. So, what can you add to bath bombs?
- Epsom salt – has a relaxing, soothing and anti-inflammatory effect, regenerates the epidermis,
- Petals of your favorite flowers – they can be in the form of dried flowers or herbs, e.g. rose, marigold, lavender,
- cosmetic clay - then the ball has more care properties,
- colored dyes – to produce sparkling balls, soap dyes are used instead of food colorings,
- Cinnamon , turmeric or gingerbread spice are perfect.
Sparkling balls in the children's version
A colorful, glittery bath bomb is a perfect change from bath time for children. The preparation itself is an adventure for the child, a creative sensory exercise that perfectly stimulates various senses, and a great way to spend time with parents. However, when making a bath bomb for children, it's best to avoid any additives, especially if you're worried about an allergic reaction. Instead of essential oils, you can simply add baby olive oil. It's also a great idea to place a small toy inside the bath bomb, which will appear in the bath once the bath bomb has dissolved. Homemade bath bombs are also a great idea for a handmade gift.
