In the previous text, we described superfoods, which have been talked about a lot for some time now, and often include foods from this category in the daily menu. However, today we'll focus on another phenomenon that is one of the leading trends in contemporary cuisine—home cooking.

Comfort food – what is it all about?

In the introduction, we mentioned contemporary cuisine, but it must be emphasized that the term "home cooking" refers to the past. Foods bearing this name are closely linked to nostalgia, emotions, and memories, especially from childhood.

In short, comfort food is food associated with carefree times, family gatherings, and multigenerational tradition. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that it's virtually impossible to find a single, coherent definition in this case—the idea of ​​home cooking is based on purely subjective impressions, subject to individual evaluation, and dependent on the cultural reality to which it refers.

Is home cooking healthy?

Many people think that this type of dish is primarily characterized by its high calorie content, although this is not necessarily the case. Of course, dishes such as bigos , potato pancakes, goulash, dumplings, dumplings or sweet desserts (e.g. custard or cheesecake) are widely recognized in Poland as home cooking, but most of these delicacies can be creatively transformed and thus - significantly lose weight. After all, bigos is not only served in a veggie version today, but dumplings or goulash also come in many variations. Besides, not everything that is "homely" has to make you fat - after all, who doesn't like tomato soup, cucumber soup, sorrel soup or aromatic mushroom soup?

Which products to use?

There are certain spices that are definitely associated with home cooking—so it's worth using them when preparing your favorite dishes. These undoubtedly include marjoram , lovage, bay leaf, dill, and allspice. However, spices aren't everything—some fruits and vegetables are also associated with childhood and delicacies once served by grandma and mom. Celery, carrots, leeks, and parsley are worth mentioning. It's also a good idea to reach for apples, plums, and pears, or to prepare meals on the grill. The latter option can be practiced often right now—the spring-summer season definitely loves it!

As you can see, comfort food can be both delicious and healthy—it's all about preparing familiar dishes in a sophisticated way. Let's not be afraid to return to the flavors we remember from childhood!
