The traditional whisk used to froth matcha tea during the Japanese tea ceremony.
The broom, also known as the brush, is handcrafted from a single piece of light-colored bamboo. The precise cuts create a flexible mustache, slightly curved at the bottom and gathered at the top and fitted with a special wooden handle.
Chasen works best with a bowl for preparing and drinking matcha. The vertical walls of the bowl and the wide bottom allow you to easily and conveniently "beat" the matcha in water and quickly get a layer of foam on the surface. Remember that the temperature of the water in which matcha is prepared should not exceed 80ºC.

APPLICATION
Matcha Whipping Tips: It's best to start beating matcha slowly. By gently scrubbing the bottom of the bowl with the Chasenu mustache, you can mix all of the matcha with water well. Then we move the chase higher, closer to the surface and begin more vigorous movements resembling the letter W or M for about 10-20 seconds.
Remember to only work with the wrist and not with the whole hand, which tires more easily. A thin blanket of foam should quickly form on the surface. A perfect foaming of the tea is possible thanks to the many flexible bamboo whiskers. The more mustache in the chasnie, the easier it is to get the so-called "jasper mousse", or the perfect layer of foam.
For the best effect, the brush should be soaked in hot water before use and rinsed after use. Chasen shrinks as it dries, becomes brittle and prone to damage, so it's worth keeping on a special naoshi stand.

RECOMMENDED STORAGE
Storing Chasen on a special stand will help ensure its longer lifespan and keep it in the right shape. However, do not enclose the chasene in plastic wrap or any other sealed container as this may result in the accidental growth of mold on the bamboo handle.
