Healthy foods are natural food products to which no preservatives or other chemicals have been added. According to the available definitions, it is created using traditional methods. There has been a lot of talk about natural foods lately, which is closely linked to society’s growing awareness of nutrition. The more people are interested in what should be on their plate, the greater the selection of health-promoting products on the market. However, it is worthwhile to be able to distinguish between natural foods, for which the proven composition speaks, and those that are "healthy", just by the name of the manufacturer.

Organic and healthy food

Very often the term "organic food" is used synonymously with the term "healthy eating". It may seem that the difference between the two terms is small, but in practice it can be really significant. In order for products to be labeled as organic, they must have a corresponding certificate resulting from the regulation of the European Economic Community. All of them can therefore be called healthy foods. Unfortunately, the latter concept can in turn be abused by some producers, since it is not covered by any standard that defines the production rules.

However, this does not mean that the term “healthy food” is only used as a marketing ploy to mislead the consumer. Many of these products are made from natural and wholesome ingredients - only they are not certified. However, it is worth reading the ingredients carefully and checking whether they contain artificial colors or preservatives, for example. When you buy certified natural food (marked with the community logo, the so-called Euroblatt), you know that it comes from organic farming, in which neither artificial fertilizers, growth hormones nor synthetic pesticides are used.

Is it worth eating natural foods?

For many years it has been common practice for many food brands to use various additives to enhance the taste or smell of individual products. Therefore, it contains a number of harmful substances such as B.: artificial colors, stabilizers, thickeners, flavors, antioxidants, pesticides that are found in vain in nature. All of them can affect not only everyday well-being, but also overall health.

Natural foods in the menu are a way to provide the body with more of the nutrients it needs, as well as vitamins and minerals. Ingesting these types of products comes with the delivery of much less harmful additives that have been mentioned above. Many of the chemical substances marked with the symbol E may not have very beneficial effects, e.g. Problems with sleep, concentration, rash. For this reason, it pays to avoid them on product labels.

Despite the fact that healthy foods contain many health-promoting properties, it should be borne in mind that, just like conventional products, they can cause allergies. For this reason, allergy sufferers should always familiarize themselves with its composition.

Why are health food products more expensive?

With the increasing nutritional awareness of the population, the range of natural foods is also expanding. Although they can be purchased more and more frequently at attractive prices, the acquisition costs are still significantly higher than those of conventionally manufactured goods. Because manufacturers of healthy food, especially certified food, have to comply with strict rules from cultivation to preparation to distribution. Elimination of chemicals, incl. chemical fertilizers, pesticides or growth hormones leads to a more expensive production process and a shorter shelf life.
