Psyllium is a natural source of fiber, so it is often used as a bowel control agent. It is used in diarrhea to increase the viscosity of the intestinal contents, as it normalizes the duration of the intestinal passage and thus the frequency of bowel movements. It is also used to treat periodic constipation and when light bowel movements are particularly recommended, such as with hemorrhoids (anal nodules and hemorrhoids) during pregnancy. As an expectorant and anti-inflammatory agent, psyllium is used as a coating in the course of gastric ulcers, in the treatment of gastrointestinal irritation and in irritable bowel syndrome.
It is also recommended to be taken during slimming diets,
because it reduces fat absorption, reduces hunger pangs and affects metabolism.
