Graviola (Annona muricata, Guanabana) is a plant of the family Annonaceae, also known as: Annona macrocarpa, A. bonplandiana, A. cearensis, Guanabanus and muricatus, and in Poland as soft-handed sorrel. Under natural conditions, it is a 5-7 meter tall evergreen tree with large, glossy, dark green leaves, bearing yellow-green, heart-shaped fruits 15-23 cm in diameter, growing in South America, Africa and Oceania.

Mainly used for parasitic infections and cancer, the herb also takes advantage of its sedative and antispasmodic properties. It is a plant with a very long tradition due to its medicinal properties, being considered a valuable remedy in South American medicine for thousands of years. All parts of the tree (bark, roots, stems, leaves, fruit and seeds) were used for healing purposes by Native Americans in South America and Peruvian shamans.

Different parts of Graviola contain different amounts of a group of chemicals that are considered biologically active (these are annonic acetogenins). In traditional herbal medicine, Graviola has the following properties: anthelmintic, antiparasitic, antipyretic, sedative, antispasmodic and hypotensive, antispasmodic.
