High blood pressure is often caused by poor diet, obesity, lack of exercise, and excessive stress. High blood pressure can manifest itself through headaches, rapid heartbeat, and anxiety. If left untreated, it leads to changes in the kidneys, vascular system, and heart, and can ultimately result in heart attack or heart failure, stroke, and other equally serious illnesses that endanger life and health. One of the natural and fundamentally simplest ways to lower blood pressure is a healthy diet. There are products that can lower blood pressure and are worth including in your diet on a long-term basis.

Products that lower blood pressure

The easiest way to stay healthy is to eat a healthy and varied diet. If you're concerned that you may be at risk for high blood pressure for various reasons, you should supplement your diet with foods rich in nutrients like potassium, magnesium, polyphenols, and flavonoids. Delicious, healthy, and readily available foods that lower blood pressure include:

  • Berries – such as blueberries, bilberries, strawberries, raspberries and currants,
  • Beets – contain large amounts of nitrates (nitric oxide helps regulate blood pressure),
  • Tomatoes – contain a lot of potassium,
  • Chokeberry thanks to its content of health-promoting anthocyanins,
  • Raisins – contain a lot of potassium and fiber,
  • Sunflower seeds – rich in magnesium, which calms the body and lowers blood pressure,
  • Eggs – the peptides contained in the protein normalize blood pressure, but caution is advised for people with elevated cholesterol levels,
  • dark chocolate with a high cocoa content – consumed in small quantities, but helps to lower blood pressure,
  • Broccoli – a valuable source of magnesium and potassium,
  • Bananas – are a source of potassium,
  • Skimmed milk – consumed daily, thanks to its calcium and vitamin D content, it helps significantly to lower blood pressure,
  • Flax seeds – provide fiber and omega-3 acids, when taken daily they significantly lower blood pressure,
  • Olive oil – from the first pressing (it then contains the most polyphenols),
  • lean meat and fish – are a source of unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids,
  • fresh salad, spinach and garlic – eaten regularly,
  • Quinoa (Quinoa) – is a source of protein, lowers cholesterol and sugar levels and thus helps lower blood pressure.

It's also worth incorporating natural herbs with blood pressure-lowering effects into your diet. Instead of coffee, tea, and other caffeinated beverages, you can drink herbal teas with:

  • Chamomile – has a calming effect,
  • Lemon balm – helps to reduce nervous tension,
  • Rue herb – has antispasmodic properties,
  • Wild rose – contains a lot of vitamin C and has a positive effect on the heart and the entire circulatory system.

The basic principle of a healthy diet for people with hypertension is primarily to limit salt and preservative-containing products, especially convenience foods. It's also worth limiting the consumption of highly processed fats and sugar. Olive oil is definitely better, and sugar can easily be replaced with healthier alternatives, such as maple syrup, xylitol, or natural honey . Healthy exercise and oxygenation of the body, for example, through regular outdoor walks, should also be considered.
