Healthy homemade cold syrups – recipes
CONTENTS
The fall and winter seasons are a time when it's especially important to take care of your health. Frosty mornings on the way to work or school, strong winds, sleet, and a lack of sunshine all contribute to the onset of colds and flu. We suffer from weakness, runny noses, and sore throats. When we notice the first symptoms of illness, it's worth trying the old, proven methods of treating colds that have long been known in folk medicine. Grandma's homemade syrups can help us fight respiratory infections, relieve cough symptoms, and, since they're natural, they can be given to the whole family. And it's best to use them prophylactically throughout the winter.
Ginger with honey and lemon
- fresh ginger root
- Lemon 1-2 pieces
- Honey
Slice the thoroughly washed lemon and place it in a glass. Add peeled and sliced ginger or coarsely grated ginger. It's best to layer the ginger and lemon alternately. Pour plenty of honey over the mixture and let it stand in a cool place for about 24 hours. After this time, the syrup is ready. For preventative purposes, you can take one tablespoon of the syrup daily. For colds, sore throats, and coughs, take three times a day. Ginger syrup has a warming effect and relieves the early symptoms of infection, sore throats, headaches, and muscle pain, as well as weakness or mild fever.
Pine shoot syrup
- Pine shoots weigh about 1 kg
- Sugar (can also be brown or birch sugar , for example)
Pine shoots appear starting in May. About one kilogram is needed to prepare the syrup. Preparing the syrup is really simple. The shoots don't need to be washed, just check for small insects. Place them in layers in a jar (preferably steamed), sprinkling each layer with sugar. Cover the jar with gauze and let it stand in a warm place for 4-6 weeks. The syrup should turn golden. After this time, you can pour the syrup into smaller jars or bottles. Pine syrup is excellent for fighting colds, nasal congestion, and sinusitis. It's also used for sore throats and coughs.
onion syrup
- Onions 2-3 pieces
- Sugar
This is one of the most popular and easiest homemade cold syrups to make. Although its aroma isn't necessarily popular, its effectiveness for dry coughs is reliable. To prepare, chop at least two onions and sprinkle them with sugar (you can also add honey). After just a few hours, the onion will produce a juice that has an expectorant effect and helps to tone the entire body.
Clove syrup
- Cloves about 6-8 pieces
- Honey
Simply mix lightly crushed cloves with honey in a small jar and let it stand overnight. In the morning, remove the cloves from the honey. You can also crush them in a mortar before mixing them with honey, which will intensify the flavor and aroma. Therefore, if you're preparing the syrup specifically for children, lightly crushed cloves are sufficient. This very easy-to-prepare syrup is especially helpful for tiring coughs. It facilitates expectoration and has antibacterial properties.
Syrups are a simple and healthy way to boost the immune system in the fall and winter. Their preparation is not complicated, and the composition is simple, unlike pharmacy syrups. They can be administered safely to children and the elderly.
