Granatapfelsaft - Vorteile und Kontraindikationen

Pomegranate juice is a low-calorie beverage that delights with its flavor, aroma, and deep red color. The pomegranate fruit originated in Western Asia and the countries bordering the Indian peninsula, but is now cultivated in many places around the world.

In Poland, too, it is increasingly being chosen by consumers – in the form of whole fruits or ready-made juices. What are the benefits of pomegranate juice in your diet? A small portion of it in your daily diet is enough to nourish the body, support digestion, help prevent serious diseases, and much more.

When is pomegranate juice good and why?

Pomegranate juice is especially recommended for people seeking low-calorie beverages (approximately 60 kcal per 100 g), as well as for stimulating digestion and regulating blood cholesterol levels. The natural compounds found in the juice contribute to lowering LDL cholesterol levels while increasing the beneficial HDL cholesterol levels. Pomegranate juice contains vitamins C, A, and E, and belongs to the B group. It is also a source of magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, flavonoids, and tannins. Most importantly, however, is the pomegranate's high content of polyphenols—classified as antioxidants.

Pomegranate juice allows you to use its properties to combat the symptoms of anemia and support the circulatory system. In addition, the substances contained in the juice can also accelerate epidermal regeneration simply by supporting its blood supply. This is due to the action of the aforementioned antioxidants, which help eliminate the effects of cellular aging caused by oxidative stress. Antioxidants and a high concentration of vitamins allow the skin to regain color, radiance, and elasticity. Nourishing the skin from within also allows for more effective combating of acne and discoloration.

Interestingly, pomegranate juice also contains active ingredients that can have a positive effect on the intimate sphere—in both women and men. For thousands of years, the pomegranate fruit has been identified as an aphrodisiac, and as it turns out, this isn't far from the truth, as it actually helps maintain a high libido.

High-quality organic pomegranate juice, thanks to its phytoestrogens (especially folliculin), helps relieve the symptoms associated with PMS in women. These ingredients also help relieve menopausal symptoms. Numerous studies also confirm the effectiveness of the substances contained in the pomegranate fruit in the prevention and treatment of cancer, particularly breast and prostate cancer.

Due to its low calorific value, pomegranate juice can be used as a substitute for sweetened drinks and juices, as it's a great thirst quencher. In Oriental cuisine, the juice is often used in cooking, making preserves and wine. It's also successfully added to smoothies.

The juice is not a medicine, so there are no specific restrictions on its use. However, it is worth consuming about 50 ml of juice every few days, perhaps even divided into two servings. It retains its rich flavor even when diluted with water. Due to its highly acidic reaction (citric acid is extracted from the fruit in crystalline form), pomegranate juice should not be consumed in very large quantities. For this reason, it is also not recommended in the diet of people with chronic gastrointestinal diseases, as it can cause additional irritation. Frequent consumption of pomegranate juice is also not recommended for chronic constipation.
