CONTENTS

Used for bathing, and not just for a few generations, by our mothers and great-grandmothers, soap flakes were forgotten for a few years. Today, as consumer awareness grows and more and more people strive to be more environmentally friendly, more and more of us are turning to natural, 100% plant-based soap flakes instead of perfumed drugstore soaps that contain preservatives, dyes, and bleaching agents.

Soap flakes for allergy sufferers and more

Soap flakes are primarily used for bathing. They're a great alternative for anyone struggling with the effects of allergies and atopic dermatitis. The likelihood of developing an allergy when using soap flakes is definitely lower than with scented and colored soaps. Toddlers can be safely washed in skin-friendly soap flakes. If you have sensitive or allergy-prone skin and plan to bathe babies in soap flakes, you should pay attention to their ingredients when purchasing the flakes. They should be made from high-quality soap (approx. 80%) and natural plant materials, without chemical additives such as:

  • preservatives,
  • fragrances,
  • dyes,

To prepare a bath in soap flakes, dissolve 10 to 30 grams of flakes per liter of warm water and pour the mixture into the bathtub. After bathing in flakes, rinse off any remaining foam with clean water. After bathing in soap flakes , the skin is thoroughly cleansed and feels pleasant. If you prefer, you can pour this solution into a soap dispenser instead of pouring it into the bathtub and use it as liquid soap for washing your skin.

Soap flakes instead of washing powder

Following our grandmothers' example, soap flakes can also be used as an ecological and hypoallergenic substitute for drugstore washing powders, which can irritate delicate skin or cause itching, especially in small children, upon contact. Soap flakes made from natural ingredients have a subtle scent, are mild, and are less harmful to the environment than conventional commercial detergents. Soap flakes made from natural, plant-based ingredients are also not classified as detergents; they are classified as cosmetics. They effectively remove dirt and are perfect for washing:

  • baby clothes,
  • Allergy-friendly clothing,
  • delicate clothing made of materials such as:
  • Silk,
  • wool,

Soap flakes for washing in an automatic washing machine

There are two ways to use soap flakes for washing in the washing machine:

  • Detergent made from soap flakes: Half an hour before washing, add approximately 6-10 tablespoons of soap flakes to 1 liter of hot water. The harder your water, the more flakes you'll need. After about 30 minutes, when the flakes have completely dissolved and a smooth liquid has formed, simply pour the solution directly into the drum. It's very important that the liquid is smooth and free of lumps, as the remaining undissolved flakes can stick to the washing machine. Soap flakes create a strong lather, effectively removing even stubborn dirt and stains.
  • Homemade washing powder with added soap flakes: To prepare it, you need to mix 1.5 cups of soap flakes with 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of borax. If you want to scent your laundry, you can add a few drops of non-greasy essential oil to this mixture.

Hand washing in soap flakes

Soap flakes work when we want to rinse and refresh very delicate fabrics that shouldn't be washed in the washing machine. In this case, the laundry detergent recipe above works: dissolving 6-10 tablespoons of flakes per liter of hot water. The resulting liquid is enough to add to about 2 liters of warm water and soak the laundry in this solution. Finally, rinse the fabric thoroughly with soapy water. Water with soap flakes is also suitable for washing makeup tools such as brushes and sponges.

Out of concern for our health and the environment

Using soap flakes for bathing or washing instead of store-bought powders full of chemicals is a 100% environmentally friendly solution. People who value ecological solutions, as well as those with sensitive, allergic skin, should try soap flakes as an alternative to drugstore products. Soap flakes are not only healthy for us and the environment, but also highly effective, efficient, and easy to use daily.
