Over the past few decades, we've become so accustomed to using aluminum foil and cling film that it's hard to imagine going without. While this type of film is convenient to use, using this type of food packaging creates large amounts of plastic waste each year, which unfortunately ends up in the soil, rivers, and oceans, harming the environment. So, what can we use to replace food wrap without sacrificing the convenience it offers? An ecological and equally easy-to-use alternative is wax wraps. They're reusable, biodegradable, and designed with our planet in mind.

Wax wax cup – what is it?

A wax wrap is simply a piece of natural cotton soaked in beeswax. These two natural ingredients are enough to create a 100% eco-friendly, reusable food wrap with natural antibacterial properties. By using them, we can reduce the amount of plastic we use, which, when it ends up in landfills, contributes to the destruction of entire ecosystems. Wax wraps are a product that:

  • it is biodegradable,
  • it can be washed and reused,
  • in which you can pack sandwiches, cheese, cold cuts, leftovers, etc.
  • suitable for wrapping containers and bowls with food stored in the refrigerator,
  • does not release any environmentally harmful substances,
  • has antibacterial and antiseptic properties.

How do you care for waxworms?

When using wax cloths, we must be careful to care for them properly to ensure they last a truly long time. They should be hand-washed after each use with lukewarm water (too hot can dissolve the wax) and possibly a mild detergent. If they are slightly soiled, simply wipe them with a damp sponge or cloth. Washed scarves should be placed in a dryer to dry naturally. Once dry, they are ready to use again. We must be especially careful to avoid all heat sources, including hot water. We should not wash wax cloths in the washing machine or dry them in the microwave, oven, etc. If we make a mistake, the wax cloths will lose their properties. Used wax cloths should be thrown into a brown container for biodegradable waste.

Are there wax wraps?

The classic wax wrap is a common cotton material that can be used to wrap almost anything. You can use it to wrap cheese, bread, fruit, vegetables, or various baked goods. We have many sizes of wax wraps to choose from:

  • Small – perfect for packing small fruits or vegetables, especially those that we have already used and have left over, such as half an onion, avocado or carrot
  • medium – for slightly larger products or to cover a bowl of food,
  • large – for cakes, sandwiches, watermelon or to cover large bowls we can also choose a large wax film with string,
  • XL for bread and other baked goods – perfect for storing bread, in this size even larger loaves can be successfully stored, it can also be used to cover rising dough,
  • the wax film can be cut to the desired size.

Are wax wraps useful?

In these wax-soaked materials we can store food such as:

  • vegetables and fruits,
  • Sandwiches,
  • Cakes and other baked goods,
  • Cheese ,
  • cold cuts,
  • chocolate bars ,
  • Bowls and bowls of food,
  • Bread and rolls.

They can also be used as a pastry board when rolling out dough. However, they should not be used for packaging raw fish and meat, or liquid products such as creams, soups, and yogurts.

Because it's a wax-impregnated product, the wax wrap can be quite stiff, so you can easily warm it in your hands after removing it from the packaging. Wrapping sliced fruit, such as apples or avocados , with wax wrap allows you to store it in the refrigerator for several days without worrying about it getting dark. Wax wraps protect packaged food from damage, making them perfect for packing takeout food. Therefore, they're not only an alternative to foil, but also to plastic containers.
