Water is an essential part of any diet
- Why water is necessary?
- How much water does the body need?
- What are the symptoms and effects of dehydration?
We've often talked about the importance of water for the proper functioning of the body on our blog, so it's worth expanding on this topic and examining exactly what it helps with and why it's so necessary.
When we think about dieting, we usually focus on the calorie content of meals and check the amount of fat and carbohydrates they contain. We also pay attention to sugar, fiber, and protein, but often forget the most important thing: water. This is a big mistake, because water is responsible for many processes that take place in our bodies. It makes up about 70% of our weight, so it's important to ensure it's a regular part of our daily diet.
Why is water essential?
As we mentioned in the paragraph above, water regulates a large percentage of the processes that constantly take place in our body. It is the basic component of many biochemical reactions as well as a great solvent - no wonder it is responsible for the proper functioning of our metabolic system . A lack of water can drastically disrupt the process of digesting and burning food. In addition, water is also responsible for the body's thermoregulation, the transport of nutrients and the elimination of toxins . In other words, one of its functions is to cleanse the body of unnecessary products, those that arise as a by-product of metabolism. Indirectly, it also increases our immunity because by ingesting water we get rid of harmful substances and in turn enrich the body with essential minerals .
How much water does the body need?
The answer to this question isn't as simple as it might seem. The amount of water needed depends on many factors, including age, ambient temperature, the type of activity performed, and body weight . It's common to say that a person should consume one to two liters of water per day, but this is a very average figure. A much more precise conversion rule seems to be that one kilogram of body weight is equivalent to thirty milliliters of water . Remember not to let your body dehydrate!
What are the symptoms and effects of dehydration?
We've already touched on the topic of dehydration, so it's worth addressing. It's worth emphasizing that dehydration is quite dangerous and, in its extreme form, can cause enormous damage to our bodies. How do you recognize it? The most common symptoms include dry skin, scant urine output, dry mouth, shortness of breath, general weakness, and even loss of consciousness . If these symptoms appear, you should react immediately. However, let's remember that the best and healthiest water is pure water—that is, mineral and non-carbonated or with a low gas content . Water-rich food is also important, and we cannot do without it either.
Water is the essence of life—although it may sound pathetic, this fact cannot be denied. Therefore, its deficiency cannot be tolerated, as it can destroy our health. Excess water in the body is equally unwise, so we must ensure that we consume it in healthy, appropriate amounts .
