How to strengthen your immune system? A trip to the kitchen for health

Immunity and ways to improve it remain a very important and current topic. This is no surprise, given that we live in times we could not have imagined two years ago. The coronavirus has added a new, even more important dimension to taking care of your health and immune system.

Strengthening immunity in summer

Even though it seems like the worst is behind us for now, specialists are still warning of further waves of COVID-19. Besides vaccination, the best way to protect yourself from the negative effects of the coronavirus is to build a strong immune system. And although we tend to think less and less about illness in the summer, now is the best time to strengthen your body's defenses.

Contrary to what supplement manufacturers would have us believe, there are no magical, quick ways to boost immunity. This is a process that requires time and our patience. If we start now, we'll be ready to fight the coronavirus and other diseases by fall.

Natural ways to improve immunity

To strengthen your body, three factors are particularly important: adequate quality and duration of sleep, moderate physical activity, and proper nutrition. Check out which ingredients and products should be in your kitchen.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is, I believe, mostly associated with the immune system. It is best supplied by nature. Products with the highest content of this vitamin are: black currant, wild rose, red bell pepper, parsley, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and kiwi. But remember that these products should be consumed raw. Thermal treatment causes loss of most of the vitamin C they contain. A good quick way to get a shot of vitamin C are juices, for example from sea buckthorn, chokeberry or raspberries. It is important to choose juices without added sugar, cold-pressed. They are not the tastiest but very effective.

Vitamin D

Just as important, if not more important, for increasing resistance is vitamin D. It is very difficult to obtain it through food. It mainly contains fatty fish, marine animals and eggs, but also foods with added vitamins, e.g. spreads, some juices and vegetable drinks. We can partially gain weight by staying in the sun, however we cannot then use filter sunglasses. This is not a recommended method. In our climate, vitamin D deficiency is very common, which is why we recommend supplementation. The selection of the dose should be carried out after carrying out blood tests.

Spices

Many spices that we add to food have very beneficial effects on health. To strengthen your immune system, we should pay particular attention to garlic, which contains allicin, fresh ginger, turmeric and Ceylon cinnamon , which are beneficial for us. It is worth using them during daily meals. A good idea is to make infusions with the addition of some of them. It is important to consume especially freshly sliced ​​garlic and ginger , as they gradually lose their properties over time.

Decoctions cooked on the bones

Speaking of ways to strengthen your body, you can't skip soup. On the one hand, this is a great way to enjoy portions of vegetables (although some lose their beneficial properties when cooked), on the other hand, the minerals derived from bones are still more important. Decoctions have a particularly beneficial effect on our intestines, which largely contribute to the efficient functioning of the immune system. To fully utilize the decoction's beneficial properties, we should cook it very slowly, at least 8 hours, over a long heat.

Take care of yourself today

Boosting your immunity doesn't happen overnight, but rather is a long process. During the fall and winter, enjoy yourself and your health; think about it now. Get some sleep, get taller, exercise, or at least get some exercise. And most importantly, go to the kitchen and use all the natural foods that will help your immune system.
