The pineapple is a plant in the bromeliad family, which includes about seven species. It occurs naturally in South America; it is cultivated primarily in Mexico, India, Thailand, and Brazil, as well as Hawaii and the Philippines. Its birthplace is Paraguay and southern Brazil. It was brought to Europe in the 15th century thanks to the expeditions of Christopher Columbus. Since then, attempts have been made to adapt it to the greenhouse conditions of our climate, but these are highly uneconomical activities.
The pineapple is characterized by its distinctive, even iconic appearance and its uniquely sweet, refreshing taste. This large, delicious fruit boasts a rich content of nutrients such as vitamins A, B, and C, as well as minerals such as iron, phosphorus, zinc, and potassium. Furthermore, thanks to bromelain, which supports digestive processes, pineapple can support weight loss.
Pineapple is a great snack and an excellent addition to cakes, desserts, and salads. It also pairs well with meat, bringing out and enhancing its flavor.
