Diatomaceous earth, also known as kieselguhr or diatomite, is a rich source of silicon, a mineral that plays an important role in connective tissue function.

Properties of diatoms

Diatomaceous earth contains up to 85% silica, a natural source of silicon, an element necessary to maintain beautiful skin, hair and nails. In addition, it contains calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron and other minerals. Due to the abrasive properties of diatoms, diatomaceous earth effectively cleanses the intestines of food residues, microorganisms and toxins and has a positive effect on the work of the digestive and immune systems. Because of these properties, diatomaceous earth is also used to make products like scrubs and toothpaste. Diatomaceous earth also eliminates unpleasant odors from the mouth.

Application of diatomaceous earth

Diatomaceous earth intended for consumption is in the form of a white or yellow powder. The recommendations for taking diatomaceous earth state that it should be consumed on an empty stomach. The consumption of diatomaceous earth should be started with a dose of 3 g dissolved in a glass of water or juice. If you notice negative effects when using this product, eg headaches or stomach pains, the dose should be reduced by half. The maximum daily intake of kieselguhr is only permissible if it is fully tolerated by the body in the amount of 15 g. You should drink at least 2 liters of water daily during the kieselguhr treatment. Diatomaceous earth can also be consumed by children over 12 years of age.
