Pleurotus (Fr.) P. Kumm., better known as oyster mushrooms, is a genus of mushrooms in the oyster mushroom family, most of which are edible species. In Poland, two species are cultivated and widely sold: the oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) and the lemon oyster mushroom (Pleurotus citrinopileatus).
Like most mushrooms, oyster mushrooms are low-calorie foods. 100g of fresh fruit contains between 35 and 50 kcal. Unlike typical wild mushrooms, which are considered nutrient-poor, oyster mushrooms are rich in nutrients and vitamins, including zinc, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, sodium, selenium, B vitamins, vitamin C, and 70% digestible protein.
Oyster mushrooms have many uses, including preparing pork chops, boiling, frying, as a side dish to soups or as a filling for dumplings.
