Rain, snow, frost, and strong winds—all these factors make it easy for the body to cool down at the start of winter. This is especially true when we spend every day before and after work standing at the bus stop waiting for the bus or clearing snow from the car. Upon returning home, when it's pitch black outside, all we dream about is jumping under a warm blanket, but it never comes out. Often, however, it turns out that our bodies are so cold that a blanket alone isn't enough. We need to warm ourselves from the inside out. Then it's worth relying on proven, homely, and healthy methods of warming up. Here are a few suggestions.

Warming teas and infusions

  • Ginger with honey and lemon

One of the healthiest and most proven warming drinks is ginger drink, made with fresh ginger root, honey, and lemon. It warms, improves circulation, strengthens the body, and helps fight viruses.

We usually think of adding a squeeze of lemon to our tea in winter, but the best things to warm the body are raspberry, linden, and elderberry juice, which provide additional support in the fight against the first symptoms of a cold. These can be added to tea along with honey. You can also add warming spices like cinnamon and cardamom to your tea.

Warming soups and spicy spices

Spicy spices such as chili peppers, ginger, turmeric, curry, or mustard, for example, have a warming effect. In autumn and winter, it's worth incorporating them into your daily diet. The best way to use these spices is to add them to nutritious and warming soups. Pumpkin cream with added ginger quickly relieves the feeling of cold, and in return, we quickly feel a warming sensation. In addition to the pumpkin soup mentioned above, traditional broth or tomato soup with the addition of ginger and chili are also suitable.

The method of our grandmothers, i.e. a hot water bottle

If a blanket alone isn't enough, it's worth using our grandmothers' tried-and-true method: a hot water bottle . Simply fill it with hot water to create a pleasant, warming sensation. This is especially effective when we feel pain in cooled joints and bones. Hot water bottles come in various shapes and sizes and are often "dressed" with cute sweaters. They can be a great Christmas gift for many people with colds.

Sometimes the best solution for a cold is a hot, aromatic bath. However, don't jump in immediately after leaving the villa; wait a while to avoid thermal shock after jumping in. A warm bath should last at least 10 minutes, but no longer than 30. A great option is to add a few drops of essential oil to the water for warming aromatherapy. In this case, orange and thyme oils are recommended, and at the first signs of a cold, it's good to reach for eucalyptus, mint, or pine oil.

As you can see, there are a number of tried and tested methods for warming up a chilled body. However, it's worth making sure that when it's cold, windy and frosty outside, you don't feel the biting cold too much. A healthy lifestyle, proper nutrition and, above all, appropriate clothing for the external conditions are important. Warm winter boots, a hat, scarf and gloves are essential. Exposed ankles that stick out under your trousers may be fashionable, but they also guarantee that the body will cool down. It's also worth having warming tea in a thermos or thermal mug on hand. Then there's no risk of catching a cold.
