Although oregano has firmly established itself in the culinary landscape, its properties are still somewhat unknown. This seemingly prosaic spice is of little interest to us beyond adding flavor and aroma to prepared dishes. Yet marjoram is not just a ground and dried spice; its uses are more diverse, and its properties can surprise us.

Oregano, better known as oregano, was already known in ancient Greece, and its properties were described by Hippocrates and Aristotle. In addition to its dried form, oregano is available in oil form, which is characterized by strong bactericidal and fungicidal effects, possesses antioxidant properties, and supports the immune system.

Oregano oil – what’s good about it?

The properties of marjoram oil are not yet fully understood, but we already know quite a bit about it. The most studied variety of oregano oil is the carvacrol chemotype, which contains high levels of carvacrol and low levels of thymol. This variety originates primarily from the mountainous regions of the Mediterranean. The effectiveness of this substance relies on the presence of the correct ratio of carvacrol to thymone.

How oregano oil can help:

  • has antibacterial and antifungal properties - this means that oregano oil supports the fight against parasites and microorganisms by stopping the development of microorganisms and microorganisms,
  • strengthens the body - the use of oregano oil according to the recommendations protects us from colds and flu, supports our immune system, naturally increases immunity,
  • slows down the aging process - as a very strong antioxidant, it fights free radicals in the body, thus protecting the cells of our body and inhibiting the aging process,
  • Supports the digestive system – the kravarkol contained in the oil is responsible for limiting the accumulation of the lipid layer in the subcutaneous tissue. The oil improves digestion and supports bile flow.

What ingredients does oregano oil contain?

The main reason oregano oil is valued is because it contains thymol and carvacrol. The latter substance has excellent antifungal properties and supports the digestive system. Thymol also has antibacterial effects. What else can we find in oregano oil:

  • B vitamins – Vitamins from this group support the functioning of the nervous system and have a positive effect on mental health. They also improve respiratory function and increase the body's resistance to infections.
  • Vitamin C – This vitamin is a powerful antioxidant that reduces the effects of free radicals, which negatively affect the overall health of the body. It should be remembered that a deficiency in vitamin C can weaken the body, causing increased fatigue, joint and muscle pain.
  • Vitamin K – supports blood clotting processes and strengthens bones,
  • Flavonoids - are very powerful antioxidants that are responsible, among other things, for neutralizing free radicals and preventing the oxidation of vitamin C. They also have anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effects, strengthen blood vessels and generally have a positive effect on the entire body.
  • Minerals – Oregano oil is rich in minerals such as magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, and zinc. Proper body function would be impossible without them. They influence the proper functioning of the immune and cardiovascular systems, strengthen bones, and ensure proper development and growth.
