Are there healthy sweets? Sugar in the child's diet and its healthier substitutes
The first food a child eats in life has a sweet taste. Milk, as we know it, is all lactose and sugar. Therefore, babies know sweetness from their first days of life; they like the taste, and it's strange that even after weaning from the breast, children prefer sweet foods.
Sweets often become a favorite delicacy for children. Sweets are something that preschool children crave and the habit of eating sweets lasts for many years. As you know, excess sugar in the diet is unhealthy and contributes to the development of obesity, tooth decay, and in the future, diabetes and heart problems. Even when parents try to watch their child's diet, they want to feed them healthy food and not introduce them sweets, as the high sugar content is found in juices and very popular baby food. It turns out that up to 80% of children eat a lot of sugar. So what can a baby eat instead of sweets so that their child needs a sweet taste and stays satisfied and at the same time grows healthy?
Healthy substitute sweets
- Sugars These carbohydrates are necessary they are for our brain to function properly and that is why we should not totally exclude them from your diet. It is necessary only know which sugars are healthy and what are not. Sugar not only white but also brown such as reed does not provide our the body valuable ingredients nutrients. Children, basically adults moreover they love lollipops, candies, bars, ice cream etc. what replace these sweets to eat healthy and tasty? Is it even possible to eat healthy without giving up with sweet taste? Fortunately solutions are many. Here are some suggestions:
- Xylitol - Healthy sweeteners, such as natural honey, stevia, and xylitol. These products are very sweet and, at the same time, contain valuable minerals and vitamins. Today, lollipops, gummies, and even chocolate sweetened with xylitol are available on the market. Xylitol is a natural sugar extracted from Finnish birch bark. It is up to 40% lower in calories than traditional white sugar and is safer for diabetics because its glycemic index is fourteen times lower. It does not cause tooth decay and even exhibits antibacterial properties. You can successfully use it in the kitchen for baking cakes and replacing regular sugar with it when cooking healthy desserts.
- Fresh and dried fruits – Fruits are sweet and contain many valuable vitamins and minerals. Dried prunes, dates, and apples are sweeter than their fresh counterparts and also rich in nutritionally valuable ingredients. Children, especially, may enjoy crispy apple and banana chips, as well as coconut.
- Healthy chocolate bars - You can prepare them very quickly combining nuts, dried fruits and petals cereals with xylitol, honey or, for example, maple syrup. You can sprinkle them with coconut or cocoa chips,
- Homemade jelly - it's a large portion of fruit with the addition of a small amount of flour and potatoes. Instead of sugar, here too, I'm excellent at checking out xylitol myself.
These are just a few suggestions. It turns out that sweets are relatively simple and, above all, worth a significant change to healthier and energy-boosting snacks. We don't have to ban sweet foods from our little ones; instead, opt for healthier baby substitutes.
