Natural vegetable oils are valued for their culinary and cosmetic properties. In addition to traditional sunflower, rapeseed, and olive oil, we are increasingly experiencing the health-promoting properties of linseed, coconut, and black cumin oil. Sesame oil is among the oils that are becoming increasingly popular and valued. Let's take a look at its benefits and properties.

Properties of sesame oil

Sesame oil is one of the oldest oils in the world. It is extracted from cold-pressed sesame seeds, which preserves most of their valuable nutrients. It is the source of:

  • Sesamine,
  • Lecithins,
  • Omega-3, 6 and 9 unsaturated fatty acids,
  • B vitamins ,
  • Vitamin D,
  • Vitamin E,
  • Phosphorus,
  • Zinc,
  • Magnesium,
  • iron ,
  • Fiber.

Two teaspoons of sesame oil are enough to meet your daily needs for essential fatty acids. These acids aren't naturally synthesized in our bodies, and we need them for, among other things, the proper functioning of the heart and supporting the immune and nervous systems. We need them from outside, which is why sesame oil performs perfectly in this role. On the other hand, the lecithin contained in sesame oil supports proper brain function. In addition, sesame oil, rich in health-promoting nutrients, supports our body in:

  • Maintaining normal cholesterol levels,
  • Fight against diseases such as: asthma, diabetes, arteriosclerosis and eye diseases, cardiovascular diseases,
  • the proper functioning of the heart.

Sesame oil – Use in the kitchen

Sesame oil is primarily characteristic of Oriental and Asian cuisine. It is used in Japanese, Chinese, Indian, and Middle Eastern cuisine. It has a delicate, slightly nutty flavor and aroma. In Polish cuisine, it is best added to salads and dressings without heating, as otherwise it loses most of its valuable properties. It is an excellent ingredient in vegetable pastes, hummus, or as an addition to couscous. It also goes well with vegetable soup creams, such as pumpkin cream and cauliflower cream. It can be used to enhance rice- and noodle-based dishes.

Sesame oil – Use in cosmetics

The nutrients contained in sesame oil not only have a beneficial effect on our internal systems, but it also works excellently as a natural cosmetic, with regular use on skin and hair, resulting in the following benefits:

  • soothing irritations,
  • moisturizing,
  • antibacterial,
  • smoothing,
  • slow down the aging process.

Oiling your hair with sesame oil promotes hair growth and delays the aging process, including graying. Hair becomes smooth, nourished, shiny, and non-static. On the other hand, sesame oil used on the face has antibacterial properties, soothes irritation, smoothes and moisturizes, and acts as an anti-wrinkle cream. It also helps with excessive flaking of dry skin. As a natural and aromatic oil, it is also excellent for use in a full-body massage. It has a regenerating and relaxing effect. It is worth incorporating sesame oil into your daily diet and skincare routine, and the effects of its regular use can be felt throughout the body.
