CONTENTS

Vitamin D's role in human health remains greatly underestimated. Its deficiency affects many people around the world. It can also be obtained "from the sun," but virtually nowhere in the world are the conditions for this and for a satisfactory vitamin level found. Absorption and bioavailability of the vitamin are also important, which is why supplementation is so crucial. In Poland, vitamin D intake is usually recommended in autumn and winter, but determining vitamin D levels in the blood should serve as an indicator. Based on the study results, doctors recommend year-round supplementation to many of their patients, even at higher doses.

Health not only physical

The benefits of optimal vitamin D levels include physical health benefits, and less commonly, mental health benefits. And low vitamin D levels can have disastrous consequences for your well-being and mental health!

A vitamin D deficiency can lead to inflammation in the body, which often results in thyroid problems. Hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or Hashimoto's disease - these and their connection to mental well-being are receiving increasing attention, but not everyone connects the dots with vitamin D. Symptoms of deficiency include bone and muscle pain, insomnia, rapid fatigue, reduced immunity, and weakness. Therefore, it's not surprising that if you experience these symptoms, your well-being will deteriorate significantly. Vitamin D is responsible for the release of serotonin and dopamine into the brain. When levels are low, it becomes difficult to cope with daily tasks and perform tasks, discouragement, and mood disorders occur.

Depression and its connections

The development of mood disturbances and malaise is often a short path to the development of depressive disorders. When depressed mood, low self-esteem, fatigue, and a lack of previously enjoyable activities are present, it is usually possible to talk about them, especially when the symptoms make prolonged functioning difficult. It is worth paying attention to these aspects, but be aware that temporary energy dips occur in everyone and are nothing to worry about. In addition to drug therapy and psychotherapy, vitamin D supplementation is often recommended in the treatment of depression. It is not a golden mean for everything, but it can make a big difference, and it is worth raising awareness about it in society.

It's worth paying attention to getting the right amount of sleep per day, taking a vitamin D supplement (as recommended by your doctor), being physically active, and maintaining a diet that includes vitamin D -rich foods (fish, dairy products, eggs). It may not seem like much, but it can make a real difference and improve the quality of your functioning.
