Ramen – was ist das und wie bereitet man es zu?

One of the leading culinary trends of recent years is undoubtedly Asian cuisine, specifically those dishes based on aromatic broth. It's no surprise, then, that many cities are seeing an increasing number of restaurants specializing in this type of food, with ramen dominating their menus. Let's take a closer look at this dish and examine where it comes from and what it actually is.

Ramen - basic information

In short, ramen is a Japanese dish (although its origins date back to Chinese cuisine) based on broth served with noodles. The dish is rounded off with aromatic ingredients and spices, so it often contains a large portion of vegetables, which thickens the whole dish. Interestingly, ramen definitely stands out from other Japanese soups, especially because it contains meat. Another piece of information worth noting is the fact that, like in many European restaurants, ramen is one of the most exclusive dishes and is therefore considered a fast food meal in Japan. However, due to its growing popularity, its authentic character is increasingly being emphasized.

Does ramen exist?

As already mentioned, ramen is a broth served with noodles, but its taste, aroma, and even appearance differ significantly from the broth typical of Polish cuisine. The liquid base of the soup is meat broth, more specifically, broth made from pork and pork bones. The pasta in this dish is also slightly different—it's a specific wheat pasta, the original version of which comes from China.

The soup should also contain plenty of vegetables such as onions, Chinese cabbage, or radish, as well as seaweed , meat, egg (preferably hard-boiled), and seafood. The whole thing is usually seasoned with soy sauce . It should be emphasized, however, that there is no fixed recipe for preparing this dish, so there are many variations.

One ramen or many ramen?

The immense popularity of ramen has led to the creation of a large number of variations, as we've already pointed out, sometimes somewhat far removed from the original. Misoramen, for example, is made with poultry and fish and seasoned with miso paste. It's usually served with bean sprouts and sesame seeds, along with other vegetables, which we wrote about in the paragraph above.

Shōyu ramen is also a chicken soup, but with beef and pork added. It's also often served in a spicy version, with spices like Sichuan peppercorn or black pepper, and sometimes chili. Some restaurants also offer vegan options, so there's sure to be something for everyone.

As you can see, there's no one-size-fits-all way to make perfect ramen. By remembering a few simple basic rules, you can create your own version of this dish that best suits your culinary preferences and tastes.
